FAQ
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy is for anyone seeking a space to pause, reflect, and connect more deeply with themselves. It can be particularly valuable when navigating emotional challenges, major life changes, relationship difficulties, or periods that feel demanding and difficult to carry alone. At the same time, therapy is not only for times of struggle—it can also support personal growth, self-discovery, and a deeper understanding of yourself.
What happens in a therapy session?
Therapy sessions are typically 60 minutes long and take place in a confidential, respectful, and collaborative environment. Together, you and your therapist will explore what brings you to therapy, identify what feels important to focus on, and work towards goals that are meaningful to you.
Do I need to know exactly what I want to talk about before starting therapy?
Not at all. Many people begin therapy with a clear concern, while others arrive with a general sense that something feels difficult, confusing, or overwhelming. Part of the therapeutic process is making space to understand what is happening and what you need.
How often will I need to attend therapy?
Most clients attend therapy once a week, particularly at the beginning of the process. The frequency can be adjusted over time depending on your needs, goals, and circumstances.
There is no fixed timeline for therapy. Some people seek support for a specific concern over a shorter period, while others engage in longer-term work focused on deeper patterns, relationships, or personal growth. We will regularly review your goals and what feels most supportive for you.
How long does therapy take?
Confidentiality is a fundamental part of the therapeutic relationship. Information shared in therapy is kept private, with a few legal and ethical exceptions relating to safety. These will be discussed with you at the beginning of therapy.
Is everything I share kept confidential?
Feeling nervous, uncertain, or even sceptical about therapy is completely understandable. Beginning therapy often involves stepping into unfamiliar territory. We aim to create a space where you can move at a pace that feels comfortable and where there is room for questions, uncertainty, and curiosity.
What if I feel nervous about starting therapy?
Expressive Arts Therapy uses creative forms such as art, movement, music, writing, storytelling, and imagination to support exploration and expression. No artistic experience is required. The focus is on the process rather than the final product. We may incorporate expressive arts practices into therapy when they feel supportive and relevant to your goals.
What is Expressive Arts Therapy?
No. Creative and expressive approaches are always offered as invitations, not requirements. We will work collaboratively to find approaches that feel comfortable, meaningful, and supportive for you.
Do I have to do art in therapy?
The relationship between you and your therapist is an important part of the therapeutic process. We encourage you to explore our therapists' profiles and areas of practice. If you're unsure who might be the best fit, feel free to get in touch—we'd be happy to help you find who aligns with your needs and preferences.
How do I choose the right therapist?
We understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, we ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice. However, if a request is made within the 24 hour window, the session is charged as usual. As therapists we can hold only a limited number of sessions each day, late cancellations or rescheduling requests often leave appointment times that cannot be offered to others seeking support. We appreciate your understanding and consideration in providing as much notice as possible.
What is your cancellation policy?
Fees vary depending on the therapist and service. You can find current fee details on our booking page, or contact us if you have any questions.
